The change maker: Nathalia Ramos

Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22, is an event to support environmental protection. Whilo Tastemaker, political activist and screen siren Nathalia Ramos is not just a beautiful face. The LA-based actress is championing the movement towards a sustainable earth and has curated a selection of products that are eco-friendly and give back to charities and causes that support this cause.

Can’t make it along to a demonstration for Earth Day? No worries, Nathalia’s expert selection will have you showing your support through a few simple clicks – check out the full Whilo Earth Day Featured List for gifts that do good and give back. And in the meantime here’s some insight on Nathalia who is destined for great things, professionally and for the world.

Born: Madrid, Spain.

Known for: House of Anubis and Bratz.

Success is: being truly happy.

People are surprised that I: speak Vietnamese.

What is the best gift that you have ever received: A La Californienne watch.

How do you show your loved ones they’re special?: I love to get creative with gifts and give them something personal for them or special experiences.

What is your “go-to” gift for family and friends?: Any of the brands from my Change Maker Featured List because they are all great products and help good causes- so it’s a win-win!

What does Earth Day mean to you?: It’s an important reminder for us to step out of our busy lives, reconnect and focus on something bigger and more important than ourselves.

Why is protecting the planet important to you?: I want to leave behind a beautiful planet for my children and their children. We have the technology to make real change, but perhaps we are lacking the wisdom. I am optimistic, however, for my generation. I think sustainable living is something that we really care about and are willing to work for.

What can we do at home to help?: Being conscious about where your dollars go is an important first step. That’s why brands like these are so dear to my heart. We all love nice things, but as a responsible citizen, it’s important to understand that those things come at a cost. Buying trendy sneakers for cheap may seem great, but do you know what it took to get those sneakers to your front door? And then, of course, we need to support every politician out there that is taking real steps to protect our planet from harmful legislation. Fortunately, CA Governor, Jerry Brown, is a trailblazer. He was talking about climate change in the 70s before people even knew what that was.

What causes are you currently supporting and why?: I currently work at a Think Tank called the Berggruen Institute that researches real solutions to long-term problems in government. The government today is very short sighted and election based, which is why it is so difficult to get anything done. Learning about the way government works and understanding that there are solutions to some of our most difficult problems has been instrumental in shaping my view of the world and hopefully one day I will be able to contribute in a deep way.
