We sat down with Sarah to chat about her journey to #yogihood and get the 411 on her lust haves.
Born: Columbia, South Carolina.
Lives: Venice, California.
People are surprised that I: For the first six years after college, I was in advertising, very extroverted, donning conservative dresses, straight hair, make-up and 6 inch heels. These days, the introvert is me is screaming to be nourished, and I live in yoga clothes and over sized shirts that I wear as dresses.
What is your favorite piece of advice when it comes to yoga practice? The three words that have stuck with me from day one are: practice, patience, persistence.
What are your 2018 resolutions? The mantra I’m going into 2018 with is: I am open to experience life as it unfolds. 2018, will be my year of abundance. Each moment in every day, we have the opportunity to show up, start over and create the life that we want.
I’ve tried to steer away from specific goals, but rather looking at the year as a whole and what I want to bring to fruition. I do have a journal for manifesting that I write in frequently along with setting intentions on new moons and full moons. I believe that when we put things into writing that we want, it is our way of the universe hearing what we desire.
What are three healthy daily rituals (easy ones for us beginners please!), that everyone should schedule time for this year?
1. Find time for YOU before anything or anybody else. Put your phone down and just breathe. Even if it means getting up 5 minutes earlier, you will be glad you did. My favorite Zen proverb reads:
“You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes every day – unless you’re too busy. Then you should sit for an hour.”
2. Move your body. Detach from what you think that movement has to be or look like. Get outside. Do something that increases your heart beat and feels good.
3. Drink lots of water even when you think you aren’t thirsty. I always keep a bottle in the car and usually one in my purse.
What is your everyday health & fitness routine? As soon as I wake up, I drink a glass of room temperature water with a couple drops of lemon essential oil. It energizes my metabolism, and the drops of lemon are better for your health because they are derived from the peel, which contains way less acid than the actual juice. I oil pull with coconut oil as it boosts the immune system, and I swear by taking a daily probiotic and drinking kombucha. I also practice yoga 4-5 times a week and make time to be outside in nature.
i am in charge of my happiness. i will not let anything outside of myself control me. i am creating a life that feels good on the inside + it will turn into experiences good on the outside. 📸 @boujo . . . . . #yogi #yoga #yogaeverydamnday #pinchamayurasana #mexico #tulum #wanderlust #travel #optoutside #getupsidedown #inversion #yogapractice #vacation

Any tips on maximizing our morning ritual? Set attainable goals and show compassion to yourself on your journey to achieve them. If it doesn’t serve you to wake up earlier in the morning, find another time in your day that you can fit time in for you. From a person with a pretty sporadic schedule, I must say there is something about consistency, but do your best with what you can. Listen to your body. It will tell you what it needs and what it doesn’t, what it likes and dislikes. There is no need to force anything. The way you feel moment to moment may change, so be open to adjusting your rituals if that feels necessary.
What was the inspiration behind your Whilo Gift Guide Selections? For me, they’re essentials in creating balance in the mind, body and soul.
What are your top three must-have products from your Whilo Featured List?
- The Five-Minute Journal – Gratitude, always.
- Sage & Palo Santo – A good cleansing can cure anything. Sage is really great to use to neutralize an environment while palo santo will only pull out the negative ions from a space. I have both in my house and carry palo santo in the car and my purse.
- Skin Brush – Dry brushing encourages new cell renewal, resulting in smoother and brighter skin. It assists in improving vascular blood circulation and lymphatic drainage.
What is the best health and fitness gift that you have ever received? My yoga teacher training course (thanks Mom and Dad!). This was a massive investment. My parents believed in me, and that 8-week journey changed the direction of almost everything in my life. For the longest time, I had searched to find my passion and purpose. I truly believe that I am here to spread yoga, to connect, to inspire and to help others heal.
What is your “go-to” gift for family and friends? Crystals. Yes, I believe they have healing powers.
